2009 Scholarship Winner – Allison Stack

Allison Stack is the 2009 winner of the Art in the P$1000 college scholarship. Ally graduated from South Portland High School and will be attending the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in the fall. She chose the Massachusetts College of Art after spending four weeks attending an Introduction to Art course there last summer.

Ally’s interests include several different media, including small sculpture, jewelry, photography, painting, drawing and ceramics. In addition to her high school art classes, she has taken classes at the Maine College of Art in oil painting, jewelry and photography. She takes inspiration from being out of doors, particularly at her family’s camp in Cape Rosier and her aunt and uncle’s farm in upstate New York. She is also inspired by Maine islands and the city of Boston.

Born and raised in South Portland, Ally is the daughter of Gail and Terry Stack. The family includes a younger brother, Elliott, and a black lab mix named Sadie. Her family, including her parents, grandparents and aunt and uncle, is artistic and has encouraged her to pursue her talents. Her mother is a graphic designer at Hannaford, and her father, who works at Idexx, also has an art degree. Her aunt and uncle are professors of art and film, respectively, at Colgate College in New York.

Ally will be exhibiting her art at Art in the Park at stand # 99, between the gazebo and Cottage Road.
