Scholarships:
Every year Art in the Park gives a $1000 scholarship to a student graduating from South Portland High School who is going on to study art in college. Arthur Hahn, for whom the scholarship is named, was one of the founders of Art in the Park and a well-known promoter of the arts in the Greater Portland area.
Lillian Dickson was the 2010 winner of the Art in the Park scholarship. She attends the Savannah College of Art and Design where she is majoring in visual communications and photography. In addition to looking forward to the creative environment and artistic opportunities at SCAD, she also enjoys the warmer climate. Her long-term goal is to be a photographer for a fashion designer or magazine. Lily has a lifelong interest in art and has always been creative. Her mother does pottery and ceramics, and her grandmother was a photographer. When Lily inherited one of her grandmother's cameras, it sparked her own interest in the medium. Her art classes at South Portland High School increased her interest in painting, photography and fashion design. Lily lives in South Portland with her parents, three cats and a dog. In addition to art, she enjoys sports, especially volleyball and surfing. One of her favorite places to vacation is Akumal, Mexico, which she described as a relaxing small town with a beach and no cable. She was named class clown when she graduated from Mahoney Middle School and South Portland High School.
